They respond to the educational needs of people in insurance and risk management to help them provide professional service to the public. More than 150,000 insurance practitioners around the world are involved in Institute programs.
The Institutes offer the following courses:
Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCUŽ)
This professional insurance education program is designed for experienced insurance practitioners. The courses in the program cover a broad range of insurance, risk management, and general business topics, building on a foundation of ethical principles and systematic analysis of insurance contracts. Insurance and risk management principles are applied to the treatment of personal and commercial loss exposures, and more than 50 insurance policies are analyzed in detail. The operational functions performed by insurers in providing insurance protection are examined in depth.
The CPCU program is recommended for experienced insurance personnel who have a strong knowledge of insurance practices and have studied the insurance principles that underlie these practices; people who have completed the Program in General Insurance (INS) or any of the IIA specialty programs; risk managers, accountants, safety professionals, attorneys, professors of insurance, recent graduates of schools of business, and other professionals whose jobs require an understanding of property and liability insurance contracts and functions.
Earning the CPCU designation requires passing nine national examinations and meeting the Related Studies requirement as well as having a minimum of three years' experience in the insurance business and agreeing to abide by the American Institute's Code of Professional Ethics.
